Although much of this hike was covered in my Columbia River Gorge Backpacking post, I thought it was still worth mentioning as a day hike. Eagle Creek offers a variety of trip options. You could do a short 4-mile round trip hike to Punchbowl Falls (which also includes a short side trip to Metlako Falls) or, with a little extra effort, hike 6-miles one way to Tunnel Falls! Due to its ease and accessibility, it gets incredibly crowded on weekends when the weather is nice. We happened to do this on a cloudy, misty day, so there were hardly any people out on the trail. We had the pleasure of a quiet and peaceful hike, enjoying the old-growth forest, moss-coated rock walls, numerous waterfalls (although we regrettably didn’t do the short side trip to Metlako), and the ever present Eagle Creek.
